DAY 3

RADICAL DISCIPLES COURAGEOUSLY GO WITH JESUS

What comes to mind, when you think about the command to GO, especially in the context of sharing your faith? Is it fear, trepidation or intimidation? For most of us, it takes a lot of courage to share our faith, particularly in an increasingly secular and hostile world. However, Jesus promises to be with us, just as He promised the first disciples. This was Jesus’ final encouragement to a group of friends whose world had been turned upside down and inside out. They believed Jesus to be the Messiah who would save the world, only to then see Him arrested and crucified. After coming to terms with the extraordinary events of His resurrection, they gather to watch Him ascend into heaven. But even more extraordinary, were the words that Jesus spoke to them before He left. ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always to the end of the age”’. – Matthew 28:18-20. Even though they faced hardships and even death because of following Him, those final words from Jesus, promising them His authority and abiding presence, transformed them from a group of scared and confused believers into an army of radical disciples who went out in His Name and changed the course of history. Lord, let that be true of us today!

Daily devotional

by Emma Timson

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
– Matthew 28:16-20

  • As we come before the Lord in our daily worship and surrender, allow the Holy Spirit to stir from within you once again, the wonderful testimony of His goodness over your life. Let this truth overflow in your praise and thanksgiving.
  • Acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and give Him permission to lead you through your day, that you would know the intentional positioning of the Lord in your ‘going’. Pray for opportunities to share your faith, today.
  • Pray for our church family; that we would be committed in our desire to be radical disciples of Jesus. Pray that we would continually model a lifestyle of worship, obedience, service and courage as we share our faith and move in the power of God’s love.
