DAY 19: ‘Knocking in Prayer’ can Save a City and Nation

Every great revival that has swept a nation has been preceded by a movement of prayer. The Lord is looking for people who are willing to humble themselves by standing in the gap to pray for cities and people groups who have turned their backs on Him. In Ezekiel, we see the Lord’s holy anger at the sin in Jerusalem and says, ‘“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me on behalf of the land…”’ Ezekiel 22:30. In the book of Acts we see how a door of opportunity was opened for the apostle Paul to preach the gospel in Rome, a city that was at the time the centre of sin. He had been taken there as a prisoner, but prayed and asked others to intercede for him so that he could preach without negative spiritual forces hindering him. As we saw on Day 11, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14. It’s easy to be despondent about the spiritual and moral decay in our society and to wonder what difference ‘our little prayers’ can make. But be encouraged, God is still calling His people to cry out for the salvation of people, cities and nations, which are full of people who He loves and who Jesus died for.
